About MaryAnn
I’m MaryAnn, the hands behind Phenomenal Fiber.
As a graphic designer, I’ve explored many different creative mediums over the years. Fiber became part of that exploration through a moment of curiosity.
One day, I came across a YouTube video of Katlyn Dunn of Dunn Spun Fibers spinning on a spindle. I was intrigued enough to make a spindle myself, order a braid of fiber, and teach myself to spin.
I’d been crocheting since I was a wee little girl, but knitting had always eluded me. Once I’d finished spinning my first yarn, I wanted to see what I could make with it. I sat down with knitting videos and taught myself, one stitch at a time.
Weaving came later, during a visit to a local llama farm. The woman there had small rigid heddle looms and taught me the basics. Another possibility opened up.
That’s how much of my work begins: something catches my attention, and I follow it. Sometimes I have a plan. Other times, the color, texture, and character of the fiber help me find my way.
The fiber speaks. My fingers answer.
Phenomenal Fiber brings together finished pieces, patterns, and materials for other makers. Here in the Studio, I share the process—the experiments, the learning, and the discoveries along the way.
Whether you’ve been making for years or are just beginning to wonder what you might create, you’re welcome here. Curiosity is a good place to begin.
